Ascensor Reina Victoria, Valparaiso

4.4
#7 of 103 in Things to do in Valparaiso
Ride comfortably on Ascensor Reina Victoria, a funicular railway declared a historical monument in 1998. Opened over a hundred years ago, the hillside elevator was named in honor of Queen Vitoria, the long-reigning British monarch who died in 1901. Works of public art decorate the line's stations, while the summit offers fine views of the adjacent hills. In my opinion is the best Valparaiso elevator... your you enter and there are always very friendly people serving you... as well as upload and find a beautiful landscape with works of urban art as a sliding if or if you must use it

Walking from plaza Aníbal Pinto, we arrive at the base of the lift. It is very short and therefore cheap. The view is beautiful. Another jewel in Valpo.

Fully recommended. The only thing that I would not advise would be to use the slide... I release by the and I hurt a little. The rest of the excellent ride.

I took the stairs only to take advantage of the amazing views at the top of the elevator! Amazing Valparaiso reminds me so much of the colourful kaleidoscope of Porto city in Portugal - love it

For CLP 100 you can avoid the steep walk up to Cerro Alegre. The lift runs every few minutes.

This Ascensor was built in 1902. Quite steep comparing with the others but not vertical. Only $100 (not $300). Can access to Cerro Alegre with nice restaurants and gallery.

It's very cheap and it spends 2 minutes, if you don't want to go up by foot, it's a good choice and a great experience in a 100 yo elevator!

It's quick and cheap. It will also save you time and energy. Cost is $100 for one way, very cheap.

Where to stay in Valparaiso

Since its inscription on the World Heritage List in 2002, Valparaiso tourism has experienced a meteoric rise. The city now offers a wide range of accommodations, especially budget hostels and mid-range hotels and inns. Cerro Alegre, a hill just to the west of the city center, offers perhaps the largest range of options and looks out over the bustling port. Stay in the friendly neighborhood of Cerro Concepcion to enjoy the best of Valparaiso's cafe culture.
