Ascensor Reina Victoria, Valparaiso

4.4
Ride comfortably on Ascensor Reina Victoria, a funicular railway declared a historical monument in 1998. Opened over a hundred years ago, the hillside elevator was named in honor of Queen Vitoria, the long-reigning British monarch who died in 1901. Works of public art decorate the line's stations, while the summit offers fine views of the adjacent hills. • The Reina Victoria is very nice Lift. Super cheap and climb provides a beautiful view of the city of Valparaiso. Upstairs, great places for a cup of coffee.

  • Beautiful lift! It is a very short, but a classic pin. You can see the view of the cementetios 1 and 2, and the dissidents. Is the best sector of cerro Alegre, right place to start your tour

  • The funicular is a must do in Valparaiso that costs between 100 to 330 pesos. After you have ascended, you can see beautiful views and streer arts. Thereafter you could walk down the Cerro.  more »

  • I took the stairs only to take advantage of the amazing views at the top of the elevator! Amazing Valparaiso reminds me so much of the colourful kaleidoscope of Porto city in Portugal - love it
  • For CLP 100 you can avoid the steep walk up to Cerro Alegre. The lift runs every few minutes.
  • This Ascensor was built in 1902. Quite steep comparing with the others but not vertical. Only $100 (not $300). Can access to Cerro Alegre with nice restaurants and gallery.
  • It's very cheap and it spends 2 minutes, if you don't want to go up by foot, it's a good choice and a great experience in a 100 yo elevator!
  • It's quick and cheap. It will also save you time and energy. Cost is $100 for one way, very cheap.

Where to stay in Valparaiso

Since its inscription on the World Heritage List in 2002, Valparaiso tourism has experienced a meteoric rise. The city now offers a wide range of accommodations, especially budget hostels and mid-range hotels and inns. Cerro Alegre, a hill just to the west of the city center, offers perhaps the largest range of options and looks out over the bustling port. Stay in the friendly neighborhood of Cerro Concepcion to enjoy the best of Valparaiso's cafe culture.
