Ascensor Concepcion, Valparaiso

4.0
Built in 1883, Ascensor Concepcion serves as the city’s oldest elevator and a national monument. This funicular, which was originally steam powered, still carries passengers up a steep hill from the commercial district to the Paseo Gervasoni sector. Keep your camera out during the ascent to get photos of the city and the bay of Valparaiso. Be sure to spend time at the top exploring the city’s hippest scene, where murals decorate the sides of funky cafes and eclectic shops. A visit to Ascensor Concepcion represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Valparaiso vacation site to plot your vacation.

  • In February 2018, was staying close to the Ascensor Concepción and found it still closed for renovation. The work appeared extensive and looked like ict had some way to go.  more »
  • It is very nice, despite the fact that when travel was by cold and valparaiso public employees were on strike, however is very nice, the view and everything

  • No wasted the opportunity to climb these old elevators, which are in perfect state of conservation and maintenance. A sample of the past today.

  • This is the oldest Ascensor. Built in 1883. It's also the shortest and the priciest ($300). Recommend either get up from Ascensor Reina Victoria & down from this one.
  • It so good
  • Currently closed for renovations, oct 2017.
  • This was one of the shortest rides. Nice addition to the trip around Valpariso looking at the graffiti. I would not make a trip out just for this.
  • Currently closed for renovations.

Where to stay in Valparaiso

Since its inscription on the World Heritage List in 2002, Valparaiso tourism has experienced a meteoric rise. The city now offers a wide range of accommodations, especially budget hostels and mid-range hotels and inns. Cerro Alegre, a hill just to the west of the city center, offers perhaps the largest range of options and looks out over the bustling port. Stay in the friendly neighborhood of Cerro Concepcion to enjoy the best of Valparaiso's cafe culture.
