Ascensor Concepcion, Valparaiso

3.9
Built in 1883, Ascensor Concepcion serves as the city’s oldest elevator and a national monument. This funicular, which was originally steam powered, still carries passengers up a steep hill from the commercial district to the Paseo Gervasoni sector. Keep your camera out during the ascent to get photos of the city and the bay of Valparaiso. Be sure to spend time at the top exploring the city’s hippest scene, where murals decorate the sides of funky cafes and eclectic shops. A visit to Ascensor Concepcion represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Valparaiso vacation site to plot your vacation.

  • It is spectacular, visit the hills Alegre and Concepción, full of cafés and restaurants, the Yes very dirty, I think if it is world heritage Valparaíso has to worry about the toilet

  • If you are in Valparaiso should take an elevator! It is something that identifies much the port... In addition you can take good photographs... recommended!

  • Although quite an old elevator it works well, I went on it with my girlfriend as part of our tour with Stamps Tours - our tour company. It was a good view, you should go on it!  more »

  • This is the oldest Ascensor. Built in 1883. It's also the shortest and the priciest ($300). Recommend either get up from Ascensor Reina Victoria & down from this one.
  • This was one of the shortest rides. Nice addition to the trip around Valpariso looking at the graffiti. I would not make a trip out just for this.
  • Oldest and the best.
  • Interesting!
  • I expected more tourism ambient

Where to stay in Valparaiso

Since its inscription on the World Heritage List in 2002, Valparaiso tourism has experienced a meteoric rise. The city now offers a wide range of accommodations, especially budget hostels and mid-range hotels and inns. Cerro Alegre, a hill just to the west of the city center, offers perhaps the largest range of options and looks out over the bustling port. Stay in the friendly neighborhood of Cerro Concepcion to enjoy the best of Valparaiso's cafe culture.
