Parque Oncol, Valdivia

4.5
#3 of 10 in Parks in Valdivia
Head to Parque Oncol, a natural reserve in the Valdivian Coast Range, for unmatched views and lush wildlife trails. The 7.5 km (3 sq m) park is situated mostly on Cerro Oncol, the highest peak in the mountain range. Climb to the 715 m (2,345 ft) summit to admire miles of ocean, the Argentine border, and several large volcanoes. Explore the natural surroundings on one of the relatively easy hiking trails, or take a canopy zipline trip along the wildlife-filled rainforest. The park also offers restrooms, campsite facilities, and a coffee shop where you can relax with a hot drink. Plan my trip to Valdivia with suggested itineraries provided by Inspirock.

  • To contemplate the vastness of the Valdivian jungle. Nothing better than walking the trails in this park and breathe the smell of forest and wet earth that give life to this park. Recommended 100%

  • A very nice place, you should go with time to navigate it full and eye, carry vehicle high, there are parts on the road where low vehicles may suffer

  • Really beautiful sights, 360° panoramic view from the highest point. They have trekking paths, camping and canopy. There's also a mini lodge at the center of the park that offers food and drinks, though it's a little expensive.
  • A must, if you like nature and hiking. The most popular trail (Oncol) goes to the viewpoint from where you see the entire Valdivia city and much farther. They say in good days you can see 7 volcanoes. Trail is midium difficulty. Bring water.
  • Parque Oncol. Private reserve valdivian forest located 32 km from Valdivia (Part of the road is unpaved). Inside, there are areas for camping, picnics and canoping. There are 4 viewpoints, 2 of which are easily accessible by 4x4 car, while the others two on top are at 50-minute trek on Cerro Oncol from the road - intermediate difficulty - From the top you have a 360 degree view from which you can enjoy the Ocean, Cordillera, Central Valley, Part of Pilolcura and 11 volcanoes. among the most important:Osorno, Llaima, Tromador.
  • To most spectacular crossing, without a doubt a place that should not be passed

  • Beautiful nature, a few km from Valdivia contact. Unfortunately the gravel road, in good condition, is poorly signposted. I missed pretty bad and the google maps sent me 20 km away. Dangerous.

Where to stay in Valdivia

Valdivia boasts a range of accommodations befitting a regional capital. The hub of activity has traditionally centered around the Calle-Calle River, with many of the longer-established resorts and hotels located on the water or just a street or two back. That said, the inland areas of town also offer a diverse set of lodgings. Look around Plaza de los Rios for some of the city's trendier boutiques, along with a good number of simple and charming guesthouses.
