Zoologico Nacional de Chile, Santiago

3.4
#1 of 10 in Zoos & Aquariums in Chile
At Zoologico Nacional de Chile you can see animals from all over the world without leaving the heart of Santiago. The zoo houses exotic creatures from all corners of the globe, such as elephants, zebras, leopards, and even kangaroos. Catch the funicular up the hill to reach the zoo, where you'll have to buy a separate entrance ticket. Impassioned animal lovers might feel that many of the larger creatures are kept in inappropriate, undersized enclosures. Zoologico Nacional de Chile is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Santiago Edition.

Although a Zoo is a chain in which all the prisoners are innocent, it's a nice option to walk in Santiago. One can see that the animals are well treated. Children love to see different animals.

We went one Saturday and we were accompanied by the climate. The 1st was visit to a zoo in our little girl of 2 years and 7 months. Just enter a guardazoo advised us to take the road on the left, the return would be downhill (has many ascents and descents) and recommended us to hydrate ourselves well (made 30 ° C). The animals looked well care, their cleanrooms and everything organized and well signposted. There were two shows: one big bird conservation and another puppet. On three occasions there were spaces with slides and games for children. Very interesting. It was a very nice experience!

It opens at 10 pm, you can enter by the funicular which I do not recommend by the long rows that are generated. The best option is to walk are 10 minutes with beautiful views not demanding, then you pay the entry and you go climbing on the tour. When you get where this White Tiger you can buy the ticket for the funicular for follow up. I recommend to buy the funicular combined ticket to get up and then the descent by cable car. Doing the intermediate stop to be able go to square Gabriela Mistral very cute place for kids with wooden games and all very musical instrument.

Bad infrastructure for the visitors and the animals. Small and dirty cages, really loud with no control of the amount of people that can go in at once. No place to sit down if you are tired and the bathrooms are a joke. Easily one of the worst zoos in South America. It should be shut down. Avoid coming here.

Murdering 2 beautiful big cats just because one suicidal maniac decides to go into their enclosure 2 die!!!! You are supposed to protect these beautiful animals not kill them. That imbecile decided he wanted to die you should have do everything to protect the lions not him. Disgraceful you should be brought to justice for doing this you are a disgrace and these beautiful animals deserved better 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

Conditions for the animals- disgraceful. Tiny spaces. The zoo is in bad condition. I honestly was disgusted at the upkeep of the zoo in general and the quality of life of those poor animals 😯😟

Nice zoo, lots of animals, nice funicular, impresive top view of the Andes Mountains where you can realise the big size of these mountains. Lots of food trucks with autentic local treats and souvenirs.

The view is stunning and the park is ok.But in general its not enough space at all for the animals. Cages are to small or the area not wide enough. How it could be on a little mountain.

Santiago features numerous distinct neighborhoods filled with affordable sleeping options. For easiest access to the city's top museums and eateries, consider the hotels located in the pleasant downtown area, where you can also find many furnished apartments ideal for longer stays.
