Santuario de la Inmaculada Concepcion, Santiago

4.5
A commanding statue of the Virgin Mary dominates the landscape at Santuario de la Inmaculada Concepcion. Built in 1904 to commemorate the 50-year anniversary of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception, the 12 m (39 ft) statue stands on a site sacred to the indigenous prior to colonialism. Visit the church to admire its stone architecture, and step inside to look for several murals and statues. From the top of the hill, you can see over all Santiago and even to the snow-capped Andes. Take a hike up the hill to get there, or for an easier time ascending or descending, ride the funicular or hire a cab. • There's great attractions but it is on the route that is followed to the Summit of the Hill by what does not make sense not to visit him.

  • the image is great, the place is nice, but has a lot of stairs to get to the image, a little tiring

  • My wife and I were in the sanctuary at the end of October. We indicated that we were during the week. On Sunday, when we were there, the line to take the funicular was immense. Also during the week we were more than half an hour in line, that on the inside where you buy the tickets. But it's worth the visit. His own journey with the funicular is very interesting, in the face of the slope to climb. The surprise is the shrine's own environment, full of flowers and, in spite of the movement, it is possible to be gathering in the interior of the chapel. It was very emotional for us the fact that we're there.

  • Awesome view of the city from here! On weekends theres lot of people jogging and cycling there, great atmosphere!
  • Very beautiful church. The art on the inside is amazing as well. A must see if you venture up the hill.
  • Beautiful spot though the church is kinda plain
  • Long walk to the top is worth it for the view. Try to go on a day with less smog/haze.
  • Beautiful small church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Say a prayer and you will find peace
