Santuario de la Inmaculada Concepcion, Santiago

4.5
A commanding statue of the Virgin Mary dominates the landscape at Santuario de la Inmaculada Concepcion. Built in 1904 to commemorate the 50-year anniversary of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception, the 12 m (39 ft) statue stands on a site sacred to the indigenous prior to colonialism. Visit the church to admire its stone architecture, and step inside to look for several murals and statues. From the top of the hill, you can see over all Santiago and even to the snow-capped Andes. Take a hike up the hill to get there, or for an easier time ascending or descending, ride the funicular or hire a cab. • A magnificent White statue Crown San Cristobal Hill, and under which lies a tiny shrine where pick up is a few minutes to pray.

  • Much more than "a statue", the shrine really is special and all designed for the visit to be amazing. Upstairs has a chapel that conducts masses in some specific days and times. The view of the city is wonderful. In my opinion, not to be missed!

  • At the top of Cerro San Cristobal, access is by the funicular, which by itself is worth the trip. From the top, great view of the city.

  • One of Santiago's most beautiful place! However, for being a sanctuary, it is a bit noisy because of tourists. Even so, always you can hear catholic songs as background music, which are so peaceful. Definitely the view of Santiago from there is amazing! A must visit for all people who are planning to go to Cerro San Cristobal/Parque Metropolitano! You can go there by teleférico (cablecar), funicular (now closed by maintenance until February 2018), car and bikes.
  • Very beautiful church. The art on the inside is amazing as well. A must see if you venture up the hill.
  • Awesome view of the city from here! On weekends theres lot of people jogging and cycling there, great atmosphere!
  • Long walk to the top is worth it for the view. Try to go on a day with less smog/haze.
  • Beautiful spot though the church is kinda plain

Santiago features numerous distinct neighborhoods filled with affordable sleeping options. For easiest access to the city's top museums and eateries, consider the hotels located in the pleasant downtown area, where you can also find many furnished apartments ideal for longer stays.
