San Cristóbal Hill, Santiago

#1 of 571 in Parks in Chile
#Nature / Park, #Must See
Enjoy panoramic views of Santiago at San Cristóbal Hill. The hill rises 300 m (984 ft) above the city, and its slopes form the city's largest park. Wander the shady, green paths, take a stroll through the Japanese garden, see the animals in the zoo, or take a cooling dip in one of two municipal pools. At the summit look for a sanctuary dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, which includes an amphitheater for holding religious ceremonies and a 22 m (72 ft) statue of the Virgin Mary. Pickpockets and thieves sometimes operate in the park, especially during business hours when tourists make up the majority of visitors. • It is a fantastic place that should not miss the opportunity to visit. Climb the cable car, visit the Virgin, down by the funicular, and the zoo. They are some of the attractions that should not miss them!

  • We took the funicular up from near the Bellavista area of town which was an experience in itself. From there, we walked up to the little chapel on the very top where the stillness was beautiful after ...  more »
  • Our group of 5 couples visited this site. A must visit in Santiago as the view is spectacular from the place. We took a gondola to reach the top.  more »

  • I would give this a 5star rating if they made the actual walking tracks marked with clearer signs as it favours people who use bikes or take a service taxi. Otherwise when you get to the walking track area it’s a good workout and you are rewarded with great views and a monumental structure of San Cristobal
  • A beautiful place to walk, enjoy the view of the city and just get away from the endlessly busy and noisy city below. There's a funicular railway, a zoo and gardens too. It's probably a good idea to always go with others and keep to the main footpaths for your own security.
  • Great views of Santiago! If you have time there are lots of hiking trails all over the hill instead of taking the bus, gondola and venicular. Definitely worth the extra effort.
  • Very nice place. During the good weather when the visibility is clear it's possible to see almost whole Santiago. Really worth to go up the hill.
  • I absolutely love this place. I've been living in this city for a while and Cerro San Cristobal is one of the places I go more often to. Nature, beautiful views, and a wonderful opportunity to unwind and disconnect from the always stressful city life. Come here bicking and you will be rewarded!
