Paseo Huerfanos, Santiago

#199 of 506 in Things to do in Santiago
Stroll along Paseo Huerfanos and observe how the city moves as you pass an abundance of stores, kiosks, banks, cinemas, hotels, and cafes. An orphanage that was built here in 1758 inspired the street's name and tall buildings flank the street on both sides. If you want to avoid the traffic, find the pedestrian only zone in the segment between Mac Iver and Teatinos streets. • Eager to avoid vehicular traffic in downtown Santiago, several streets became pedestrian walkways, this is the case of the paseo Huerfanos, surrounded by a series of small shops, shopping arcades and much informal trade lease offer street vendors, this makes the ride look congested, pretty dirty and at night with some difficulty walking by the not very good elimination. That if having no vehicle is very easy to walk to go observing tents during the Trek

  • More a promenade from the Centre of Santiago that crosses another famous Promenade (Paseo Ahumada). Has many shops, street trading, bakeries, bars, very pedestrian movement. Starts at the Cerro Santa Lúcias, passing through Plaza Weapons and goes to the Park Quinta Normal where the National Museum of Natural history. It is also close to other important streets of the Center as Agustinas (parallel Street famous for currency exchange).

  • If you ask me one of my favorite places in Santiago, for sure I would speak about the Paseo Huerfanos. Is a very nice place to take a ride, take a look at the shops, take a coffee, go to a restaurant or simply observe the movement.

Santiago features numerous distinct neighborhoods filled with affordable sleeping options. For easiest access to the city's top museums and eateries, consider the hotels located in the pleasant downtown area, where you can also find many furnished apartments ideal for longer stays. For close proximity to the city's best nightlife options, consider Bellavista or Barrios Lastarria, or head to charming Providencia if you prefer something a bit more sophisticated and less raucous.
