National Museum of History, Santiago
(4.4/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
Occupying the former palace, National Museum of History covers the time period from the European discovery of the Americas to the colonial era, through independence and into the modern era. A full 18 rooms recount Chile's history, exhibiting various collections of objects from everyday life and artwork, including portraits of important figures such as Ferdinand Magellan--the first to explore southern and western Chile. See women's clothing, sewing machines, and furniture. The final section addresses the coup that brought Augusto Pinochet to power and features a sobering display of Salvador Allende's broken glasses. Take an English audio guide, since the all information is in Spanish. Arrange to visit National Museum of History and other attractions in Santiago using our Santiago itinerary planner.

  • I love your clock in the Tower, which is accessed by a spiral staircase, you can see all the same mechanism. Top you can enjoy a great view of the main square and the center of Santiago. It has sample events and Chile historical icon. Kids co can be. Access is free, if you want to pay for hearing aids with explanation

  • This museum, in Plaza de Armas, has as main theme the story of Chile since the Spanish colonization. To know what was the country before the 16th century, visit the Pre Colombian Art Museum, which is very close. With cloakroom at the entrance and a digital guide in Portuguese, both paid, the tour is well facilitated. Too bad the Guide battery lasted less than the visit, which shows that the tab system for mobile application of Pre Columbian art museum is a better idea. But the collection is very good and there's an interesting panoramic view from the tower. Only sin, too, because there is no resting places inside, which makes a visit to the elderly.

  • Interesting Museum that includes every period in Chile's history. The building has its own history. The 'Real Audiencia' was located there.
  • Excellent tiny historical museum. I've learned a lot in a few hours. Unforgettable! If in Santiago again, gotta go there again.
  • Muy interesante
  • Excellent museum for learning about Chile's colonial and modern history. Wish it covered more history post-1970.
  • A pretty cool museum documenting Chilean history up until the 1973 coup d'état.
