Museo de Arte Contemporáneo - Quinta Normal, Santiago

(3.5/5 based on 110+ reviews on the web)
In an effort to welcome and preserve diverse cultural trends and promote ongoing discussion and reflection in all areas of human knowledge, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo - Quinta Normal boasts a collection of over 2,500 items of modern and contemporary art. The museum strives to narrow the gap between the public and new artistic impression with its collection of prints, paintings, drawings, and sculptures. Two separate buildings divide the museum--a neoclassical building from 1910 and an early 20th-century French-style building, dubbed 'Versailles Palace.' • It has several exhibition halls. It is located in the forest park and you can make many other activities more.

  • The museum is supposed to open during the week at 11 a.m. Was not open by 11:30! Located at back of Fine Art Museum.  more »
  • The building is impressive, samples are interesting and avant-garde, something new to see. The visit lasts between 1 and 2 hours. There are also audiovisual samples. The attention and the willingness of those who work there is very good.

  • Beautiful building. Not too much art, but had a few really nice pieces.
  • Awesome sculptures. Everything else was so-so.
  • Very good David la Chapelle exhibition. The place is very beautiful and clean, but somehow they managed to get the lightning of the rooms all wrong.
  • as it says in spanish below, this is shown in the wrong place on google maps. it is not in providencia, but in central santiago (near the bellas artes metro station!). it's a nice musem - not really "world class" (doesn't have much by famous dead european guys - but if you're looking for famous international, modern work try museo de la solidaridad), but a beautiful building, some good chilean work (a storming mata) and a good selection of exhibitions (the little shop and cafe are ok too). round the back, the MAC (comptemporary art) is more variable - sometimes pretty bad, but sometimes awesome.
