Los Dominicos Handicraft Village, Santiago

(4/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Browse a range of locally made souvenirs at Los Dominicos Handicraft Village, a popular shopping area in one of Santiago's most historic neighborhoods. Named after the area's eponymous church, the "village" is home to nearly 200 colonial-style adobe (clay brick) stores. The wide-ranging traditional goods sold there include sculptures, paintings, jewelry, copper cookware, woodcarvings, and leather items. The district also hosts regular artist workshops and cultural events such as painting exhibitions, theater shows, musical concerts, and traditional dance performances. Pick up a few handmade souvenirs and try the neighborhood's famed beef empanadas, which makes an ideal snack. • After two days of urban noise, crowds and smog this nice small village was a welcome oasis of (relatively) calm and relaxation. Smog there is here also - even though felt somewhat less - but lush green, splashing klares(!) Water, a few (morning 11: 00) Entspannte(!) People we have not otherwise seen in Santiago. And the shops and workshops are very versatile and interesting. Certainly not a "must see" but who has the time or the nose has fully by the city - is right in here
