  • Located on the corner of paseo State and Agustinas Street, in the city centre, it is possible to admire an ancient wood carving polychrome of the agony of Christ by an Augustinian Friar in 1612. According to the story, the night of May 13, 1647 a large earthquake struck Santiago, collapsing houses, temples, public buildings, generating many fires and claiming countless lives of capital inhabitants. When the friars were counting damage to the temple were realized that the figure of the Cristo de la Agonía was intact as well as the two torches which illuminated him day and night in all to her around had collapsed. Another fact that drew the attention of the friars was to check that the Crown of thorns that had always been perfectly placed on his head, had moved toward the neck. The religious tried to return the Crown to its original place but at that time there was another tremor; they tried it a second time and returned to occur another tremor by what religious desisted from trying the action for fear that would spend the same and thereafter the event was considered as a miracle, and even today the Crown of espi NAS is still located at the neck of the figure and the faithful attributed to Christ may all sorts of miracles. Since that time settles the custom draw on 13 may the Christ in procession by capital's central streets. Apart from the historical details, you can see beautiful artistic details that adorn its interior enjoying moments of tranquility and reflection.

  • The Church of San Agustín, located in the heart of San Diego, is a very large Catholic church, with a cross at the corner of the church entrance, a mural on the inner walls and ceilings of the church.

  • It really is a luxury we have in Stgo. for Catholics, certainly, but also for those who appreciate classical architecture. Beautiful altars on all sides; a pulpit disused but beautiful; a central altar of wonder that reminds us of the old glories of the Catholic Church; the sacred tradition that comes to us from ancient and little valued. The entire painted ceiling to raise the soul to the encounter with God and a body that still sounds spectacular. It is a jewel, a luxury to have it. A Latin that do not celebrate traditional mass, a great shame. PS: the Christ of may on the left side altar has a very interesting history, it stays there after 3 centuries of history. Mass at 20:00 hrs to go!
