Central Post Office (Museo Postal), Santiago

(3.9/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
If you're interested in architecture or philately, visit Central Post Office (Museo Postal). Designed by Ricardo Brown, the French-style building with an ornate white facade still functions as a post office, but also features a postal museum. It was built in 1882 on the spot where Pedro de Valdivia, the founder of the capital city, had built his home centuries ago--and some of the original walls from his house are still standing today. Visit the museum portion of the building to acquaint yourself with Chile’s postal history, see different types of old communication equipment, and to view a large collection of interesting stamps from all over the world. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Santiago holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Central Post Office (Museo Postal) and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • The visit is worth to visit the beautiful building. There is a small museum with an interesting collection for philatelic collectors.

  • Reached the Plaza of arms? Of course you have to go through the post office. But it's a good visit "stuck". Has few days in Santiago? Then look for another tourist to visit.

  • A museum that keeps all the postal history of Chile. It has a very central location in the middle of Plaza de Armas. They do tours and it has free entrance.
