Castillo Hidalgo, Santiago
(4.3/5 based on 480+ reviews on the web)
Enjoy panoramic views over Santiago at Castillo Hidalgo. Built on the command of the Governor of Chile in 1816, the hilltop fort was designed to defend Spanish colonial interests from nationalist forces. After the country gained independence, the fort was renamed after fallen captain Manuel Hidalgo. For a building designed for defense, the fort displays ostentatious architecture, indicative of late Spanish colonialism. Shaded garden areas surround the fort, with the city laid out at the foot of the hill. Make Castillo Hidalgo a centerpiece of your Santiago vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Santiago vacation generator.

  • It was a typical site for marriages and parties, the last marriage that I was, in 2015. The place is locked in his room. The food was good. That. Not much more to say. I understand that the municipality closed it and there it is.

  • Beautiful place to go and not forget the camera's photo. You can make lunches or make a snack.

  • It is worth climbing each step, explore every corner of Cerro Santa Lucia, from statues of Neptune and Aphrodite in front of the steps of one of his entries, the tomb of Benjamin Vicuna, his circular jradim, Hidalgo Castle and especially the view. The Hidalgo Castle is a beautiful and full of history.
