(3.8/5 based on 140+ reviews on the web)
At Yerbas Buenas Petroglyphs, drawings carved into the red rock face are evidence of a civilization from long ago. The petroglyphs served as a place for travellers to document their experiences and contribute to history and culture. The drawings are attributed to the Atacama people that date back as early as 500 CE. The images depict everything from gatherings of people to livestock, camelids, llamas, and foxes. Native and local guides provide valuable insight into the history of their people as told through the rock art. The site is relatively remote, but tour companies offer trips to and from the prehistoric site. • For me, this was the worst place to be visited! We lost most of the tour coming up on the rocks and watching the cartoons, that in fact, in some of them you have to have a very good imagination to see something!

  • I absolutely loved the petroglyphs, particularly the shamans, definitely worth visiting for half a day. Not many amenities but well maintained
  • This was a nice surprise. Not very far but well worth the ride there. You can see the petroglyphs from very close.
