Salar de Tara, San Pedro de Atacama
(4.7/5 based on 1,500+ reviews on the web)
Visitors often feel like they landed on another planet once they reach Salar de Tara, located on a high-altitude plateau in Chile's Atacama region. The salt flats play mind-bending tricks with your sense of perspective, surrounded in the distance by craggy moonscape terrain. After rain, the flats form shallow reflecting pools, creating an unforgettable opportunity to see almost perfect reflections of the landscape in the distance. Even more magical are the flocks of pink flamingoes, just waiting for you to take that perfect photo. Prepare to be hit by the altitude--at 4,800 m (15,750 ft), the thin air makes walking much more difficult than you might be used to. Take it easy and let your body acclimatize to the altitude. Using our international travel planner, San Pedro de Atacama attractions like Salar de Tara can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • BEAUTIFUL! It's like being on another planet. It is really magical, isn't a place with tourist infrastructure or anything like that, is simply nature at its purest. The tranquility, the colors, the sky, wild vicuñas, everything invites you to look to your around and enjoy the view. Fully recommended. That Yes, be sure to take a tour that will take them in a good 4 x 4, because there is a way but they are only traces that have left the car, only operate the satellite phones as well which should obviously not be very entertaining to pass him rather to the vehicle being up.

  • Yes or Yes you should go. We lease 3 vans and Yes we lost, we spent from the entrance, so we must be very attentive to the entrance (no waze, maps or gps in the car). But once when we find the entrance is not as described that it is easy to get lost, there are footprints all over and go to where you want to go, so it is difficult to find the entrance App 120 km. Many different between Yes, what worth ir landscapes. Does not to spend all day as they give the tour, but you should go with time because it is away from the Center, the road is paved and very good, but is far.
