  • The path to this place was flat and easy. The difficult part is trying to cross the river without getting wet! you will cross about 3 rivers and the last river is the biggest one. Right after the bigg...  more »
  • Before you go not much prepares the journey and I could not get, reaches beyond the san Isidro Chapel and not found the Gorge, I also think that the road was closed because there was a fence next to the chapel. Recommendations:-bring water, sunscreen, Cap. -do not go one day wind. -There are some river crossings, it is advisable to carry a small towel to cross the river and dry feet. -go early, we went to 13:00 and the journey we had short because we also went to the tunnel.

  • I went alone and not found it hard. I left San Pedro some 11 hours and it took me about 45 minutes to arrive. Just follow the map and directions: out of San Pedro, is required to cross the river; a little before reaching the Pukara de Quitor, cross the river and follow; have a plate Catarpe, move forward until other river; soon after has the famous tree with the can't miss card. To cross this last river took the sneakers, the water was a little below the knees. The path is between mountains, it wasn't until the end because I was alone and didn't know where it ended. Returned to San Pedro a 13:30 hours. There is no bathroom on the way; bring water.

Where to stay in San Pedro de Atacama

As the stepping-stone to the nearby national reserve, San Pedro de Atacama offers an impressive range of hotels and guesthouses. Despite the big selection, prices remain relatively high throughout the year due to the town's status as northern Chile's tourist hub. At the peak of the summer season (late December to late March), some budget-friendly hostels even require single travelers to share a room with another guest. If you wish to avoid that, look into one of the hotels, many of which cluster around the town's central area and line the main street.
