Mirador de Kari, Piedra del Coyote, San Pedro de Atacama

(4.6/5 based on 1,200+ reviews on the web)
A rocky promontory that stands high above the Valley of the Moon, Mirador de Kari, Piedra del Coyote affords sweeping views of the landscape below. Crowds tend to gather here at sunset (when most tours come); sunrise also draws lots of visitors. For a less crowded experience, arrange for your own transportation and avoid peak times. An overhanging rock has become a famous spot to take pictures, but visitors form a long line for the opportunity. If driving on your own, ask the way, as a lack of signage can make the attraction difficult to find. • Beautiful location at any time of the day. At the time of the sunset, you can't even describe .... is something to do with the soul. Spectacle not to be missed!

  • A wonderful landscape that visit and wait for the sunset. Beautiful photographs, can be taken obviously with caution, since the height is considerable and there is no greater protection. Excellent scenery.

  • Already cannot be taken the typical picture on the stone, this presents a crack and the area which you can not pass is bounded. There are a few banquitas of stone where you can wait for the sunset. You have to arrive early, around 18:40, 19:00 is filled, becomes too many people and is located on all sides, some confused, are very close to one and worst begin to scream to talk to other people, in our case a Frenchman, that we had to ask to stop communicating in that way. The idea is to watch the sunset so it don't think that it's an appropriate place to be shouting. The road is good, access costs $1,500 unless you show the ballot access to the Valley of the Moon of the same day.

  • As there are many tourists, the organization of the park Valle de La Luna has placed a rope that "prevents" people from approaching Coyote Stone. Even so it is a disputed tourist spot and some tourists end up mocking the limitation. A good tip here is to get there early, maybe in the morning. The light will also yield good photographs of the coyote's stone (since it is not in the opposite direction of the person who wants to be photographed, as it happens at sunset) and is much more empty. If I get to the sunrise, I believe it's free and a unique view of the Valley!
  • Fantastic views. We had a tour group go up here for the sunset and it was fantastic.
  • Nice view, but it's bit crowded during sunset and sun is shining to your eyes over the valley. I think it's better at the morning
  • Beautiful view point to see the sunset and then as the sun disappears to watch the shadows cheap up on the Andes and the volcanoes.
  • It's the best place to watch the sunset over the Atacama Salt Flats. The entrance is the same as for the moon valley so make sure to visit both on the same day and you won't have to pay double!
