Mirador de Kari, Piedra del Coyote, San Pedro de Atacama

A rocky promontory that stands high above the Valley of the Moon, Mirador de Kari, Piedra del Coyote affords sweeping views of the landscape below. Crowds tend to gather here at sunset (when most tours come); sunrise also draws lots of visitors. For a less crowded experience, arrange for your own transportation and avoid peak times. An overhanging rock has become a famous spot to take pictures, but visitors form a long line for the opportunity. If driving on your own, ask the way, as a lack of signage can make the attraction difficult to find. Our San Pedro de Atacama trip planner makes visiting Mirador de Kari, Piedra del Coyote and other San Pedro de Atacama attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • is the conclusion of all evening tours in the Valley of the Moon, which stop here to await the sunset before heading back to San Pedro. in fact, in the clear air of the desert, is not that the sunset offers particular colors. Indeed: look the other way, where in the distance the volcano Licancabur stands out with its mass awesome.

  • It was certainly one of the best moments in San Pedro! Starting at 5:30 in the morning from San Pedro, 8 kilometer from good mounted which are relatively quickly! The view is simply amazing top! To make mandatory as the view of the ball is breathtaking!

  • Beautiful view. Although it gets a little crowded. But still, give it a chance to watch the sun set.
  • As there are many tourists, the organization of the park Valle de La Luna has placed a rope that "prevents" people from approaching Coyote Stone. Even so it is a disputed tourist spot and some tourists end up mocking the limitation. A good tip here is to get there early, maybe in the morning. The light will also yield good photographs of the coyote's stone (since it is not in the opposite direction of the person who wants to be photographed, as it happens at sunset) and is much more empty. If I get to the sunrise, I believe it's free and a unique view of the Valley!
  • Incredible and personally my best view over Valle de La Luna and all other places.
  • Nice view. But really crowdy at the sunset because all tours come at the same time.
  • Fantastic views. We had a tour group go up here for the sunset and it was fantastic.

Where to stay in San Pedro de Atacama

As the stepping-stone to the nearby national reserve, San Pedro de Atacama offers an impressive range of hotels and guesthouses. Despite the big selection, prices remain relatively high throughout the year due to the town's status as northern Chile's tourist hub. At the peak of the summer season (late December to late March), some budget-friendly hostels even require single travelers to share a room with another guest. If you wish to avoid that, look into one of the hotels, many of which cluster around the town's central area and line the main street.
