Lagunas Miscanti y Miniques, San Pedro de Atacama

Soak in the stunning scenery of Lagunas Miscanti y Miniques, two natural jewels of northern Chile. The two salt-water lakes, the Miscanti and the Miniques, lie at an altitude of over 4,000 m (13,123 ft) on the Antiplano Plateau, in the shadows of the mighty Miniques volcano and the towering Cerro Miscanti Mountain. Split from a single body of water by volcanic lava flow, the lakes feature a blue surface that perfectly reflects the surrounding mountains. The most popular way to reach the lakes is on an organized tour, since an individual journey can be tricky due to high altitude and poor conditions of the local roads. • One of the most beautiful landscapes I've ever seen. The colors of the sky very blue, the sands, the mountains, with the volcano nevado mirroring, and other waters.

  • Don't get me wrong, these two side-by-side lakes are absolutely gorgeous and have ridiculous volcano backdrops but the paths near the lake are limited and closely monitored to ensure you don't take on...  more »
  • Beautiful place to more than 4,000 meters. Peace of mind and peace which is felt at every moment. I recommend you to visit if you're going to San Pedro de Atacama

  • Beautiful place! The guards or administrators (from the nearby communities) are extremely unfriendly! WHO ON EARTH THEY THINK WHO THEY ARE? I don't know who gave them omnipotent power? I am sure that their older generations were nicer people. Prices to access are at some extent discriminatory and high.
  • Absolutely beautiful place on earth. lots of photo opportunities that you will have here... in a very special place... we even have the luck to see desert fox, llamas, vicunas and much more..... if you have the luck to travel to this remote are of Chile... please don,t forget to have lots of batteries for your camera. A Solar protection, Winter Jacket and a cover for your face is recommended....
  • Easy drive from San Pedro De Atacama - about 1 hour. There are 2 lagoons to see and what's nice about this place is that it's not overwhelmed with tourists and it's an easy your to do on your own. There is plenty of wildlife such as Guanacos, birds, etc to see. When we visited, we were lucky to see a group of 4 Guanacos. The cost to enter is 3000 pesos and you can visit anytime of the day. There are also restrooms on site.
  • Absolutely spectacular - not to be missed. Absolutely surreal when photographed on a fine day.
  • A gorgeous example of an altiplanic landscape, this place is more than 4000 meters above sea level. We took a day tour and we were lucky enough to see many of the native wildlife while we drove or walked around the area (foxes, vizcachas, vicunas, flamingos, etc)
