Laguna Tebinquinche, San Pedro de Atacama

4.7
#1 of 23 in Outdoors in San Pedro de Atacama
Discover how captivating the driest place on Earth can be when you add some water to it at Laguna Tebinquinche. Unlike the other lagoons of the Atacama Desert--generally small pools of water--this is actually a proper saltwater lake, nestled under the towering peaks of the Andes. The mirrorlike surface reflects the surrounding scenery, making this spot famous for some of Chile's most beautiful sunsets. In the summer the lake tends to dry, leaving behind a thick layer of salt that you can easily walk on. Drive to the lake on your own, or join one of the many organized tours of the salt flats that regularly leave from San Pedro de Atacama. Like everything in the Atacama this is more a fantastic landscape, it's hard to know which way to look at mountains, lakes, flamingos all in perfect harmony and in a well preserved.

The lagoon is precious, we went by car away from Cejar lagoon, can both be easily in your own vehicle, it is not necessary to tour, prior to that are the eyes of the Salar, the only thing negative experience was the climate, we played too Wind by what I suggest taking precautions (proper clothing and sealed lenses) otherwise all right, the colors are spectacular.

Where to stay in San Pedro de Atacama

As the stepping-stone to the nearby national reserve, San Pedro de Atacama offers an impressive range of hotels and guesthouses. Despite the big selection, prices remain relatively high throughout the year due to the town's status as northern Chile's tourist hub. At the peak of the summer season (late December to late March), some budget-friendly hostels even require single travelers to share a room with another guest. If you wish to avoid that, look into one of the hotels, many of which cluster around the town's central area and line the main street.
