Water Body Nature / Park
Travel the salt flats to arrive at Laguna Cejar, a sink hole filled with water. This hole in the desert now serves as a unique swimming hole due to its high salt content, allowing for swimmers to easily float on the surface. Be sure to bring your own fresh water to rinse off with afterward, or take advantage of the showers that can be found on the site. Once you get out, take time to view the Andes mountains in the distance or remain until after dark for a clear view of the nighttime sky. Where to stay in San Pedro de Atacama

As the stepping-stone to the nearby national reserve, San Pedro de Atacama offers an impressive range of hotels and guesthouses. Despite the big selection, prices remain relatively high throughout the year due to the town's status as northern Chile's tourist hub. At the peak of the summer season (late December to late March), some budget-friendly hostels even require single travelers to share a room with another guest. If you wish to avoid that, look into one of the hotels, many of which cluster around the town's central area and line the main street.

  • What a wonderful place! You have to visit this laguna! You will have a lot of emotions after that. I was there in May, almost winter in Chile. But as I'm from Russia, the weather was perfect for me. +...  more »
  • Laguna Cejar and nearby Laguna Tebinquiche were stops on a day trip to Lagunas Miscanti and Miniques and probably could have skipped these locations. Cejar is very close to San Pedro de Atacama and an...  more »
  • My points: 1) over rated place 2) 15.000 pesos just for the entrance is way too much. It is as if you were paying just to float in the water for 5 minutes. There is no other nice attraction in the par...  more »

  • Laguna Cejar is absolutely amazing! Yiu have to go there and experience the whole floating-body thing. The Laguna is easily reachable with a bike from San Pedro so you will avoid all the tour vans coming there in the afternoon. I strongly recommend, if you take a bike, to get there either in the morning or around noon so you'll have the whole lagune for yourself before all the buses arrive at 2-3pm. Take a towel to use at the free and mandatory showers.
  • Absolutely gorgeous, and beautiful facilities there too. Go when you have a bit of cloud cover. Arrive early in the day to avoid crowds. Enjoy the small birds that swims alongside visitors!
  • You have to check this place out if you're visiting the Atacama. 3 large deep blue pools in the middle of the desert. Absolutely surreal. Entrance fee was approximately $3.000CLP which is consistent with the other tourist sites in the area. Well worth it for such an amazing landmark.
  • Astounding place! However, I visited Laguna Cejar on July 2015 which is a winter month in Chile, thus the water from the lagoon was very cold!. The lagoon itself is beautiful and heavily crowded, as it is one of the main attractions nearby San Pedro. My personal recommendation to bare the cold water is to swim to the center of the lagoon, where water is usually a bit warmer. If you visit during summer season (December to March) the cool water should be exactly what you need to face the harsh sun.
  • Amazing place. You need to enter on the water to float...
