  • At first glance, you wonder what you're doing here. Small old buildings in a park of weeds. But by taking the time to walk, it was amazing. Agricultural history can be made accessible and interesting for people who know nothing of the subject. Sheep farming is being attention, also the contribution of the path of railway and maritime transport. The apothecary shop was particularly interesting, but I found the room very interesting browsers also. A must for lovers of history, because it is a preview of a border society, one hundred years ago. In a building inside the Park, there is an exhibition on the merchant marine. It was the heart and soul of another era of this place then so prosperous. What struck me most was the pictures on the wall that showed the prosperous city and the 30 vessels at anchor, waiting to refuel. In the middle of the Strait of Magellan, the port was a perfect place to refuel in coal and victuaille. But with the opening of the Panama canal in 1914, Punta Arenas has lost its strategic position as a transoceanic port. The first world war also helped accelerate its decline as a major maritime crossroads.

  • Different outdoor space. Due to the climate of the area it should be warm. Focused on old machinery.

Where to stay in Punta Arenas

Punta Arenas boasts a huge selection of hotel options within its bustling sprawl, which range from low-key restored manors and homes to modern lodges and high-rises packed with amenities. You'll find an array of mid-range accommodations in the city's downtown area, within a few blocks of the waterfront and river. This gives you easy access to many of the city's most popular attractions and places to visit. However, Punta Arenas features very few true budget accommodations due to the large tourist industry and huge influx of cruise ship passengers that frequent town.
