Mount Tarn is a small mountain located on the southernmost part of the Strait of Magellan, in Brunswick Peninsula, about 70 km south of Punta Arenas, Chile. It is in the southern extreme of continental Chile very close to Cape Froward, surrounded by historic places such as Fort Bulnes and Puerto del Hambre (Port Famine). From the summit it is possible to see the Strait of Magellan, Dawson and Tierra del Fuego islands, and many other smaller ones; the Darwin Mountain Range, Mount Sarmiento, and most of the Brunswick Peninsula.ToponymyAccording to historian Mateo Martinic Beros in his book Cartografía Magallánica 1523-1945, the mount was named after the British surgeon, John Tarn, who first ascended the mountain in February 1827 while traveling with Robert FitzRoy on HMS Adventure and later ascended it while traveling with Phillip Parker King in HMS Beagle), during their surveying voyage from 1826 to 1830.

  • Excellent challenge for trekking with good difficulty towards monte tear, is a rise of 4 hours, where this more precipitously as you are going to rise, I recommend sportswear and waterproof, carrying rations to give energy, and much water, in the way you cross with bos ancient ques, sheds, small waterfalls... a true wonder of nature

  • It is a beautiful and with an amazing view Trek. It is not easy to carry out and depending on the conditions one may be delayed a little more or less of the estimate, but definitely worthwhile. It is well signposted in most of the way, except for the last part which is rocky road and there are no more signs, reason by which touched us see some people a little lost. The way was amazing, but very wet and muddy, to the point where one sometimes stepped on and sank up to the knee, so it is highly recommended to bring some clothes to change to the end and go wrapped!
