Monumento al Ovejero, Punta Arenas

Admire the simple artistry and homely message of Monumento al Ovejero, a sculpture that acts as a tribute to the agricultural heritage of the nation. Created by artist Francisco Campo Torrealba in 1944, the sculpture depicts 12 life-size figures in bronze. The scene is of a shepherd holding the reins of his horse that follows behind him, and a whip that guides the sheep huddled in front. Inspired by verses written by poet Joseph Grimaldi Acotto, the statue is a fitting monument to the agricultural and artistic heritage of Chile. • The Shepherd monument is typical of Punta Arenas and is photo must for many visitors that arrive every year to Magellan. The monument itself is very well made and stands out as a typical attraction of the city. But are incredibly careless cement sidewalks that are to its around. Note that years ago they no are replenished. Would not be rare that someone distracted is stumble or fall.

  • This beatiful
  • I thought it was bigger, but it is life-size. Lack beautify a little access, arrange the ravages time has left on the sculptures, but very nice. Recommended

Where to stay in Punta Arenas

Punta Arenas boasts a huge selection of hotel options within its bustling sprawl, which range from low-key restored manors and homes to modern lodges and high-rises packed with amenities. You'll find an array of mid-range accommodations in the city's downtown area, within a few blocks of the waterfront and river. This gives you easy access to many of the city's most popular attractions and places to visit. However, Punta Arenas features very few true budget accommodations due to the large tourist industry and huge influx of cruise ship passengers that frequent town.
