This is one of several ship wrecks in Punta Arenas that you can visit. The site is very cool and you can get some really great photos of the boat, especially at sunrise/sunset. If you walk down the st...  more »

Traveling next to the Costanera towards Puerto Natales we came across the wreck of the ship of Lord Lonsdale, with a curious and interesting history. There is close with ease, just pull over on pitch in front. In winter weather situations seem lives more than ever the legends related to phantom ships!

A good 5 minute detour if you happen to be driving by Not all that great... Just looks like a crashed boat. Not easily accessed from the road as I had to hike down a steep cliff onto barnacles and seaweed and trash. Maybe a small sign with some historical information would make this site actually mean something to me. Not a chance I would hire a guide for this.

Where to stay in Punta Arenas

Punta Arenas boasts a huge selection of hotel options within its bustling sprawl, which range from low-key restored manors and homes to modern lodges and high-rises packed with amenities. You'll find an array of mid-range accommodations in the city's downtown area, within a few blocks of the waterfront and river. This gives you easy access to many of the city's most popular attractions and places to visit. However, Punta Arenas features very few true budget accommodations due to the large tourist industry and huge influx of cruise ship passengers that frequent town.
