Cueva del Milodon, Puerto Natales
(3/5 based on 1,400+ reviews on the web)
Stare into the jagged-toothed mouth of Cueva del Milodon and find out if you have the courage to enter a mysterious cave. A natural monument, the 200 m (656 ft) long cave stands out not so much for its scenic beauty, but for its archeological importance. It was here that the best-preserved remains of the mylodon, a genus of giant sloth that became extinct more than 10,000 years ago, were found. Weighing in at over 2,500 kg (5,511 lb), the beast would have made for an intimidating foe. Look out for the life-size statue of the enormous ground sloth, built in memory of the discovery. • You should go because it is one of the must-see, a prehistoric cave, but that today there is nothing to do except imagine how it was and give value for its historical legacy. more that anything should go to the photo with the figure of the milodon which is at the entrance.
