Parque Nacional Alerce Andino, Puerto Montt

Though it contains many trails, rivers, and waterfalls, the highlight of the park remains the Fitzroya cypress forest, covering approximately 200 sq km (77 sq mi). Explore the many paths leading through the forest, over the rivers, and up the mountains, and admire the views of pristine nature. Keep an eye out for deer and monkey species that call this area their home. It is a very good trip, make to family with a medium level of difficulty depending on the time of year that is made, the land could be more slippery due to the rains. But there are good paths and well-marked, you can see different species of native trees, flowers copihue, and birds of the area at the end of the travel reward effort a beautiful lagoon in the middle of the forest where you can rest and enjoy a peace incredible.

Totally recommended to know this park. We did family, with my children of 7 and 4 years which made the walk without problems. We arrived by road in lenca because we wanted to see the ancient larch and it was worth much. Little last lenca is signage in the Park, you must walk 7 km gravel road, according to the conaf page is only for 4 x 4 vehicles... but we were in a sedan and we had no problems, and the rubble is well compacted and 2 earrings that are not very pronounced but they are a little more irregular, a prudent speed becomes the road smoothly. Walk about 1 hour and 20 to reach the chaicas river waterfalls and 100 metres above is the imposing larch. The full itinerary of approx is 3 hours. Eye that the entrance to the Park is allowed only up to 15 hours. 100% recommend!

Unfortunately is not well diffused is a beautiful park has a suspension bridge and a lagoon that is the reward to 1 hour walk you will see a rainforest and big larches, has gateways in as paths and should raise and lower many staircases .llegar is not very fa CIL... do not take the paved road to go (entry chamiza to) take the dirt road which is immediately next to the store... you save 5 km... and you will take you directly to the park entrance. The dirt road is in excellent condition and you will go through beautiful meadows.

Nice park. We walked to the Alerce Milenario, a very old growth cedar 12ft in diameter and very tall. Nice trail with many Tapaculos calling. This was from the southern entrance. It has a small campground and rough but doable 5 mile road in.

Where to stay in Puerto Montt

The most attractive of Puerto Montt's accommodations sit by the water, with new-build and nicely aged hotels offering extensive views and comfortable rooms. Move away from the water and prices tend to drop somewhat; budget hotels and guesthouses cluster in largely residential areas of the city, offering a nice enough place to put down your bags and go explore the region. If your focused on exploring the surrounding landscape, consider staying close to one of the main arterial roads for convenient regional travel options.
