Parque Nacional Alerce Andino, Puerto Montt

Hike through South America's equivalent of a California redwoods park at Parque Nacional Alerce Andino. Though it contains many trails, rivers, and waterfalls, the highlight of the park remains the Fitzroya cypress forest, covering approximately 200 sq km (77 sq mi). Explore the many paths leading through the forest, over the rivers, and up the mountains, and admire the views of pristine nature. Keep an eye out for deer and monkey species that call this area their home. • I was cycling from Route 7, are like 7 km as get to the Park. It is well maintained and the staff is very friendly to explain you the paths and distances. You can go cycling, but after the waterfall it is more complicated because the trail is hilly and muddy, besides the stairs you have to climb. The path is well signposted, you're bordering the river and slowly you go deeper into a more dense forest to reach the lagoon and subsequently to the millennial alerce. To the waterfall can arrive by bicycle, remember always to respect pedestrians and pedaling to prudent speed since the path is very entertaining and want to seize more speed. If you are bicycling, March is good date is fewer people.

  • We went with my family to stroll arrived 13 hrs type, but if you want to go to the lagoon triangle that is not where the road reaches it's too late to climb. Got a little beyond the Caiquenes lagoon. It was a beautiful hike have improved it a lot since about 5 years, that was the first time I went. It is very nice place and the natural ways. Fully recommended, but if you want to go to the lagoon the triangle must go to first hr, type 9 am for a slow walk. The output of the Park is always at 18 hrs. If you are going camping, you don't have to leave the Park.

  • I had intended to go to the correntoso sector and the sector of the ancient larch road to ancient larch is dynamited, gravel road in very poor condition. At no time put in to enter it closing hours, which made the 8km thinking that they would leave camp, and when we arrived it was closing the gate the Ranger... were the 20 hours! clearly we went and not returned, camping that is close is very bad, wild, and filled with horseflies the next day we went straight to the side of the sargazo lagoon... it arrives safely with the car, and dsps there is to walk 30 mins on a trail with footbridges to reach the Lake... very cute! the water isn't so cold... It is worth visiting it... We made another tour in the Park... out of there went to chapo Lake, linda shore for picnic, nothing to buy

  • Beautiful trekking experience, amazing place to visit and get close to nature's splendor.
  • Great place to visit. We were staying in Puerto Varas and drove there via Puerto Montt, the last few kilometers it's a gravel road. The entrance fee for foreigners is 4000 per person, for Chileans it's half price as usual in Chile. The park itself apparently got a big makeover and all the pathes that are opened do have almost new boardwalks. Unfortunately, the path to Laguna Frio is not opened as there are is still maintainence to be done. Then walk to Laguna Sargoza was very worth the trip and the view was just great. We stayed there for about an hour and enjoyed the solitude. The whole time we were in the park we just met two other people.
  • Nice park. We walked to the Alerce Milenario, a very old growth cedar 12ft in diameter and very tall. Nice trail with many Tapaculos calling. This was from the southern entrance. It has a small campground and rough but doable 5 mile road in.
  • awesome hike. must do. it'd be nice if they fixed the bridge to continue the hike though.
  • Awesome
