  • We chose to take the ferry from Puerto Montt to Puerto Chacabuco as an interesting way to travel the long distance to Coyhaique in Patagonia. Hoping to see mountain vistas and interesting wildlife we ...  more »
  • Fine ferry, knowledgeable staff, excellent guide (s) in English and Spanish educational lectures on the 4-day Trek, the flora, fauna and what to do in Torres del Paine. By special passages or animals in sight was that bilingual announced. Also the announcements of breakfast, lunch and dinner you could hear audible everywhere from the speakers. Instead of with the Evangelista we carry with the Eden, so we got an unexpected upgrade to a double cabin with window. The room was fine, no internet, so just talk to the Belgians, Canadians, English, Germans, Dutch, New Zealanders, Americans and Chileans. The cruising through the fjords, with corresponding views, suddenly emergent sea birds, sea lions and even two condors made the trip a magical experience. I even put the alarm clock on 06:00 hour, to but nothing. The crossing over the Pacific Ocean was pretty spicy, the row for dinner in the evening was about halved, because apparently not everyone sea legs and a strong stomach. Upon arrival in Puerto Natales and that we had to wait for a few hours because there is too much wind was about to dock, that's nature. The crew took care of without problem an extra desayuno, almuerzo and before we could finally Board.

  • We were on the road of the 15.12.17-18.12.17 ferry "Eden". We take a different ferry you gave us at the checkin communicated. The ferry is a little older but has everything you need as far as. Check in and obtain the cabins went quickly and easily. They brought us the baggage in the cabin. What super was, because there are some stairs. The staff and guides are so far quite friendly and helpful. They held lectures on flora/fauna, whales and Torres del Paine. Everything always in Spanish and English. In the evening, there was then to pass the opportunity the time with karaoke. The food was oke and always on time. Unfortunately it coincided with the menu. There were eggs and not always a dessert not every morning. Even though you had assured us when booking that you have water, juices, coffee and tea available at all times, this was not the case. So you had while hot water available but lacked of coffee or tea, except during meals, each track. You could order which at the bar. Against cash of course. Cold water and juices were there but as promised. During the lecture on the Torres del Paine the Guide showed us many tips and opportunities. What made us great hopes because we have made no reservations in advance and thus the accommodation in the park were themselves busy. So he gave us the tip would like to hire a car and thus free to decide what can you when watching. We can only recommend this. But his quotation, is that you a car for about 25'000 pesos can be rented not at all. We asked 3 different agencies and anywhere it cost 50'000 pesos and up. Also the tip that you can independently walk the Zapata Pingo, is also wrong. This is possible only with a guide in accordance with Touribüro. At all the price information is incorrect. Everything was much more expensive than he told us. Note that advance and much cheaper found lodging in Villa Río Serrano without reservation, is unfortunately also not correct. We therefore recommend all who know when they want to visit this National Park to book everything in advance. It has everything on safe and not costs. Oh yeah, the tip before the opening hours in the Park to go and therefore the admission price by 21'000 to spare pesos, also does not work. The entrance was occupied by employees before the official opening hours.

  • We took the Navimag Ferry from Puerto Montt to Puerto Natales beginning of December 2017. We booked beds in a shared 4 bed cabin for 450$. As the boat was not full (88 passengers) we got the cabin for ourselves, which was pretty nice. The cabins are really small, so if you are sharing with 4 people there is very little space for luggage. I recommend packing in a way that you can easily reach everything you need without unpacking. Don't take a bed in the 22 bed dorm, as you literally sleep in the hallway next to the bathrooms. Just spend the extra 50$ on a cabin. We really enjoyed the service on board. The food was very good and plenty. There is water and juice all day, but tea and coffee only during meal time, so if you want tea all day, bring a thermos. There is a cafeteria which sells coffee and snacks throughout the day for ok prices. No alcohol is sold or allowed on board, but it is easy to bring your own. Nobody checks and there is lots of space outside to watch sunset with a drink and noone bothers you. There were very nice nature talks and information on Torres del Paine every day, plus free Yoga classes, which was a real nice surprise. The staff were all very nice. Bathrooms could be a bit cleaner, but there was always hot water and you never had to wait for the shower. That said, we found the landscape less spectacular than we thought. It's nice, but you are kind of far away from the mainland and it's nothing compared to, for example, New Zealand fjords. All together, I recommend the tour. However, if you are low on time and/or money, it's not a must do. If you have to choose between the ferry and, for example, Torres del Paine, I would definitely opt for Torres.
  • Chaiten to Puerto Montt is 8hrs, from memory Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. Boat are okey. We meet a guy which miss the boat because it left 20min earlier, so be aware they don't wait for you.
  • Great but, the boat need some attractions. Great food, very clean, beautiful attention.
  • they should be better with their times.
  • Good experience, but not worth the price.

Where to stay in Puerto Montt

The most attractive of Puerto Montt's accommodations sit by the water, with new-build and nicely aged hotels offering extensive views and comfortable rooms. Move away from the water and prices tend to drop somewhat; budget hotels and guesthouses cluster in largely residential areas of the city, offering a nice enough place to put down your bags and go explore the region. If your focused on exploring the surrounding landscape, consider staying close to one of the main arterial roads for convenient regional travel options.
