Landmark Tourist Spot
Come face to face with a 30,000-year-old glacier at Laguna San Rafael, a bioreserve located in Chile's northern ice field. Traversing the diverse landscapes of the UNESCO-protected reserve, including wetlands and a pristine rainforest, you can observe the region's main attraction, the San Valentín glacier. Reaching an imposing 4,058 m (13,313 ft), the glacier ranks as the highest point in the Southern Andes. Though trips to the reserve were previously time-consuming and expensive, the construction of a new 77 km (47 mi) road now allows for exploration of the biodiverse trails surrounding the glacier. Using our custom trip planner, Puerto Chacabuco attractions like Laguna San Rafael can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.
