Villarrica, Pucon

Come face to face with one of the mightiest forces of nature at Villarrica. Rising to a height of 2,860 m (9,380 ft), the snow-capped volcano remains Chile's most active, and draws scores of outdoor enthusiasts. Hike the popular route to the crater, where you'll have sweeping views of the surrounding lakes--and, of course, the smoldering heart of the volcano. Following the climb, depending on conditions, you'll be able to slide down from the top on a small sled. Unless you're a certified mountaineer, you'll have to make the ascent with one of the registered tour operators. Skiing remains another popular activity here, and if you don't want to break a sweat you can book a helicopter flyover. Bear in mind that access to the volcano always depends on its current activity. • We hiked up to the top of the vomcano and ir was just unforgettable. This volcano is still active so you can hear the rumble when you reach the top it's a bit scary but amazing!  more »
  • Walk extremely radical, the agencies provide all equipment, clothing cuts wind, Pickaxe, boots and claws to climb, mask to breathe at the top of the volcano and "Board" for Ski Butt on the way down, the ride is top and the view from up there is awesome, but requires good physical conditioning, are 7:00 of walking, 1,000 m of ascent and descent that 1,400 m in the snow, ice, rocks and some 10 kg of equipment, there are several stops to rest, to eat, it's not impossible to carry out, in our group a 65 years made it all the way, but the more well prepared better and descent according to the weather conditions still scrolls a Ski Butt to "facilitate" the process. Value that pay: 85,000 Chilean pesos + 10,000 pesos for the cable car that saves you 400 metres of ascent in the beginning of the Trek, the latter is optional, but recommend that the get, this energy can be missed at the end!

  • Climbing an actual active volcano sounds pretty dope. It was! And super exhausting! The tour was phenomenal. The only downside was that we couldn't see any real lava #champagneproblems On the way down you get to use your little sled you've been carrying with you along the way and slide down the volcano on your butt. Interesting experience.
  • Climbed up this thing while sometimes not being able to breathe due to noxious sulphuric fumes, then slid down it holding an ice axe. Stupid, but one of the best days ever!
  • Finish climbing 10 mins ago, it was really an adventure and an great challenge. Several times nearly gave up, but finally succeed. Strongly suggest take the cable car for the first part of climbing remember to take sun glasses
  • Amazing climbing, the view from the top makes all the effort worth it.
  • Great one day trip to this volcano.
