National Park
Enjoy a range of hiking options at Santuario el Cani, one of Patagonia's most picturesque and memorable trails. The forest shelters one the world's oldest tree species, the araucaria. This private nature reserve covers an area of 607 hectares (1,500 acres), and trails here generally require a full day of trekking, so those of low fitness levels or walking experience should approach with caution. If you're up for the challenge, take the three- to four-hour trek to the highest point at the park--prepare to go uphill almost the whole way. Using our international travel planner, Pucon attractions like Santuario el Cani can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • We went recently with my wife, the 2nd weekend of April, it is definitely a very extensive trekking, we delay about 9 hours up and down back, but a beautiful adventure and scenery all the way to the top, their mark is perfectly marked to not go astray and the top is impressive, you need to have a physical condition as extensive travel-ready , no scale, but if many slopes that invite you to abandon the task, but the views are amazing, being in a forest of Araucaria and giant Coigües is a prize to the effort, most beautiful even standing on the top, where you should have caution, since they are streams of stone without any protection. To personal opinion, is not a trek for children or senior citizens, unless there is a previous preparation that ensures resistance physics that this demand. Considerations: there is an indoor parking that costs $5000 + the entrance to the sanctuary $4000 pp, if not arrive in vehicle particular are obliged to walk around 2 km from the main street to the official entrance of the shrine. Low season does not charge parking, since there is no staff in charge of its enforcement.

  • This was a tough day at the office on a cold & wet day in Pucon. It's a tough uphill slog for the first hour and a bit but if you can get through that it evens out. Despite there being no views due to...  more »
  • Best trekking to do in Pucon. The view from the top is sensational, it's worth all the effort from the beginning of the trail.
