Parque Nacional La Campana, Olmue

4.6
#5 of 82 in Outdoors in Valparaiso Region
Travel through nature's beauty on a hike through Parque Nacional La Campana, home to one of the last remaining wine palm forests. Seek adventure on one of several trails, or head to the base of Bell Mountain, where a relatively easy trek offers plenty of exercise to families with young kids. Make sure to take hiking boots and a camera for some photos of the mountainous landscape. The last leg of the hike becomes a bit more difficult, but it leads to an old Russian observatory, making it worth the trouble. Plan your visit to Parque Nacional La Campana and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Olmue driving holiday planner.

  • This Park is a source of pride, is beautiful, perfect for hiking and outdoor activities. This fully addressed, has barbecue areas perfectly fused with nature and descriptive signs to floral species.

  • If you go through "el andinista" you will find a medium level hike. Amazing views and if you're Lucky on the top you could view the sea, Valparaiso's cities and Argentinian hills. Totally worth it.
  • Entered through the north Ocoa entrance, intended to hike the sendero el Portezuelo de Ocoa. But the guards told us that trail was overgrown with thorns, so better to take the road to Mirador and Salto de la Corredera. "Plenty of palms along the way" they told us. "Is there any incline?" I asked. "No, just at the beginning.". Well, it was a steady but very doable incline all five miles up. But well worth it, the view of the falls from a little porch hanging off the side of the canyon was great. And continuing up a bit more to the Mirador and Area de Descanso ( where we soaked our feet in the cold water) was very nice. . Take your own water, there are cattle and many horses allowed to roam this park so springs are not potable. Too bad that CONEF doesn't dedicate more to the maintenance of these beautiful parka (and getting the cattle out--+there are no baby palms to replace the full grown palms thanks to browsing by cattle. So, like the glaciers, see it while you can.
  • Great view at the top! The trail is in a bad state near the top though.
  • Nice place, and a nice challenge for newcomers
  • Nice park. Has at 3 entrances on opposite sides of park. The north side has the famous palms. Good camping there too. Nice trail. The southwest side has good camping and trails in nice forest of Nothofagus.
