Fuerte de Niebla, Niebla

(4.5/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
On the edge of the Pacific Ocean stands Fuerte de Niebla, one of the historical Valdivia forts which the Spanish Empire built in the 17th century in order to protect the city. The fort's foundations lie on a cancagua stone slope about 30 meters high, dominating the entire bay and open sea. Original canons still line the cliffs edge overlooking the bright blue water. See soldiers reenact traditional colonial ceremonies dressed in original costume. Walk inside the Castilian House where numerous drawings, maps and photos illustrate the history and significance of the fort. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Niebla holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Fuerte de Niebla and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • The Fort of fog took me by surprise. I went out to take a walk around the town and I came across a sign and decided to see what it was. First of all, there is a beach parking lot "at will", closed and with a security person, what seemed great to me because I travel with my dog and how it was quite windy and cold day, could help it in the quiet car. I also saw that a bus goes through this street. The entrance to the Fort is about 80mts. It is free and also offer Guide. It is very well marked, with very good signage. The trails are of iron lattice, what is Razorback if you go with tacos or stick, as well as being too aggressive in view, the contrast is too strong. It runs in an hour, more or less. The views are wonderful: Beach, sea, River, Islands. There is a beautiful lighthouse. There are also remains of buildings and a reconstituted building (the Castilian House) with several rooms. There are traces the history, are statues life-size native inhabitants (Mapuche) and the Spaniards invaded the South of Chile, in scenes that chill by the real. Various writings and models also illustrate the rooms.

  • Beautiful place with a nice view. Unfortunately the descriptions of signs are burned and unable to read anything. Here is a wonderful view of the lookout south wall 😉

  • Excellent place to visit, remodeled recently with caminaderas and modern stairs, with characters that you guide and tell you the history of the site. It offers an excellent view.
