  • About two and a half hours, go back in the boat and 30 minutes on the island alone permitted to the public. Dolphins, sea lions, pelicans, cormorants and Humboldt penguins, thousands of birds... This activity allows locals to continue to live on site.

  • Fantastic tour! Do not take tour from La Serena, if not that left by bus, from Francisco de Aguirre with Matta (as opposed to Greeks bakery). I got type 11 in the morning, after approx 2 hours of travel. In one of the two creeks, I bought my ticket for the tour to the islands of the Humboldt Penguin national reserve. I could not obtain a quota to visit Isla Damas per hour: in the summer, given the high number of people, 750 quotas are exhausted early. The tour lasts 2 hours and included see the resident colony of bottlenose dolphins (beautiful!) and then you browse the surrounding Isla Choros, and may see wolves, sea otters, cormorants and Humboldt penguins and other birds. I recommend bringing binoculars and camera with a good zoom lens, given that the penguins can be seen from quite far, on the cliffs of the island. I suggest also dress shoes and a good Windbreak, since browsing in the typical boats of fishermen, equipped to carry tourists. Is lunch in restaurants in the area and for return buses from approx. 15 hrs. It is a very beautiful and exciting tour!

  • We went from Coquimbo on auto (chico), the path is paved until missing a 20 km approx. to get there, at this point it becomes quite bruised and somewhat complex for a small car, even though there are no steep slopes and dangerous curves vibrations are quite intense in certain sections when not achieved find previous marks of cars (highly recommended to go in all-terrain vehicle). Arriving at Punta de Choros there are box office where charged $10000 per person (paid over 2 years) up to the boat and you pay $3000 to disembark at Isla Damas. Ride a boat is relatively small, having 10 ready passenger starts travel. During the boat trip you can see most of the fauna, all very striking, arriving at Isla Damas you can disembark for about 45 min. an hour, there you can use the bathroom, climb to a viewpoint and/or take a path, unfortunately that time is often not sufficient to do everything that the full path is around 1.8 km. (45 min. walk approx) The flora of Damas island is also quite interesting. My recommendations to optimize maximum travel: go in 4WD, use a service such as Waze GPS, wear shoes appropriate for walking, bring something warm for the trip by boat, prepare the physical condition to make a brisk, toilet before you get on the boat. For the record: we were able to spot dolphins or whales.
