La Recova, La Serena

(1.9/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web)
Roam the stalls of La Recova, a market and artisanal fair that dates back to the 17th century as a merchant center. The building was destroyed several times, first by a fire in 1965 and then an earthquake in the 1970s. In 1981, the present market was inaugurated by Augusto Pinochet and was, at the time, the first building with an escalator in the city. Browse the numerous stalls that line the first floor, which sell local delicacies, arts, crafts, souvenirs, and vibrant handmade jewelry. Visit the second floor for a meal at one of the restaurants, which serve traditional local dishes and fresh seafood. Take a look at our La Serena itinerary planner to schedule your visit to La Recova and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

  • It is the right place to enjoy an ice cream of copao (much more natural that elsewhere), bring a souvenir on the basis of papayas and lunch (2nd floor).

  • Many people but pleasant. To go and eat. Buy souvenirs, handicrafts and sweets. There are many small restaurants to eat small fish and others.
