Island
Combine sandy beaches with animal viewing at Isla Damas. Take a tour to the island and keep an eye out for dolphins, as they have been known to swim along with the boats. Once on the island, you can choose from a number of sandy beaches to visit. As a habitat for penguins, the attraction also plays home to many of the birds, which usually gather around the cliffs. Other animals commonly found here include cormorants, sea otters, and sea lions. See Isla Damas and all La Serena has to offer by arranging your trip with our La Serena vacation generator.

  • We drove ourselves to punta de choros and on the way saw a guanaco! From there it's easy to buy a ticket for the boat. You'll also need to buy entry to the national park. The boat tour was beautiful, ...  more »
  • It really is a wonderful place. Nature in all its glory! Would that more you can ask to see penguins in the desert? It's really amazing! Beach of turquoise waters, whales, dolphins, chungungos. Beautiful! Advisable to wear layers of clothing because the heat/cold/wind varies much. Parka, comfortable shoes, some snacks and water.

  • I've gone several times by hiring the tour from La Serena and only on one occasion saw the dolphins and whales (was really very exciting!) and has always seemed beautiful. On the way you can see zorritos, guanacos and a few very nice wild donkeys. The island is beautiful and the tour boat up to her, very entertaining with sighting of birds (including penguins), sea lions and various marine species. Highly recommended.
