To visit the Centre it is necessary to book in advance. We arrived at 09:00 at the entrance and we were cleared to climb at around 10:00. There are 36 km of dirt road to get to the Observatory, but the look is amazing. The guided tour is very good, full of information, visit the oldest Observatory and the currently used. Then, we could observe the Sun with a special telescope. And more pictures, because we are simple and the Valle is a spectacle. Super recommend.

There are that make the efforts of permission in advance is true, but this can not be obstacle to miss one of the best destinations scientist - tourist from all over Chile. The enormous importance of this Observatory included Nobel Prize, is reflected from the excellent work of the Guide, who with tremendous knowledge and an amazing pedagogical wisdom, explains both in Spanish and English, each data and stories that are uniting across this infinite universe that shows and showing that Chile starts to be the World Capital of astronomy. All my recommendations, this is definitely one of my favorites. who read this may not please can not stop going.

The place is spectacular, it is at the top of the cerro Tololo to 2200 meters above sea level, the view is wonderful. Guided tour covers two telescopes and the explanations of the guides are very indtructivas. You must be booked before quotas.

Where to stay in La Serena

La Serena provides a varied selection of sleeping options, with the area between the main bus station and the town center featuring at least one hostel on every street. Despite this abundance of lodgings, many hotels book up fast at the height of the tourist season (summer: January-February), and some refuse visitors on single-night stays. If you're looking for the ultimate in space and comfort, consider renting a furnished apartment on the coastline.
