National Park Nature / Park
Adventure across an area of protected coastal and mountainous landscapes at Chiloe National Park. This 431 sq km (166 sq mi) park was established in 1982 to protect areas covered by Valdivian temperate rainforest. Explore thickly forested sections featuring perennials, shrubs, and climbers, or take a hike in the foothills of the Chilean Coastal Range, with plenty of challenging and easier walks to choose from. If you want to spot wildlife, the coastal areas are your best bet--there, you can observe a local population of blue whales and river otters. • This must be one of the points required for any visitor to the island. It has that magical spirit intact that isn't elsewhere in Chile. After visiting the Park, you realize why Chiloé should be a country in itself same...

  • The Park is one of the jewels of the island. You can arrive by bus or private car. In our case, we took the bus and the trip lasted for about 1 hour and a half. On the road you can see beautiful landscapes, on all the impressive Cucao Lake. The entrance to the Park costs $5,000 CLP for foreigners. Paths and walkways are in very good condition, so there is no possibility of getting lost. In the Park you will meet different types of ecosystems (wetland, forest, coast). The Pacific Ocean is impressive. It is important, as in the island of Chiloé, a raincoat in case of rain and mud boots. Out of the Park, there are a couple of restaurants to eat pies and calm the hunger after a day of walking while waiting the bus.

  • National Park Sea Beach is extensive as well as deep. It is possible to contemplate its entirety and how it is lost in the mist and fog causing waves to break away from the beach. Inland, there is a small species of tree, especially arrayanes forest and very thick, and that is a lot of fauna. At the offices of Conaf there are centres of interest, and small paths that lead to the interior of small groves, even one of them into the sea. You can access to the rivers Abtao and Anay. All this sector is your income down the road portion of route 5 to Cucao, and which also runs along the shores of Lake Huillinco.

  • This is the "ranger station" for the park. There are great trails here though the forest and down to the beach. Lots of interesting information. This is the place to start if you want to explore the park. All but series hikers will find all they need here, and serious hikers can use this as a starting point or source of information.
  • Very beautiful place. if you are lucky you can spot a "Chucao", a very curious bird. "copihues" a type of wild flower. very easy trekking and walk trails.
  • Camping with a summer tent is not the best choice in the National Park of Chiloe. Not surprisingly, the literature warns that visitors will be at the mercy of the Pacific storms, so expect a lot of rain.
  • Not wow
  • good
