Salitrera Santa Laura, Iquique
(4.3/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web)
Step back in time at Salitrera Santa Laura one of only two remaining saltpetre production complexes, and a remnant of a once-booming industry in Chile. The “nitrate town” is a World Heritage Monument, which remains untouched since production halted in the early 20th century. Visit the large pinewood structure that witnessed the thousands of laborers working in the harsh surroundings of the Atacama, one of the driest deserts in the world. Learn about the mining and extracting processes, and view the photos and relics from the industry’s “Golden Age.” Plan your Salitrera Santa Laura visit and explore what else you can see and do in Iquique using our Iquique tour planner.

  • When you visit the Salitrera Humberstone, to get the ticket, it serves to visit Santa Laura, which lies two kilometres, interesting plants, today transformed in Museum.

  • More girl Humberstone but with variety of places where you can see the engineering used in antiquity.

  • If you go to Humberstone, it is better go before here (at 5 min by car). It is smaller and more modest, is free and has features that make it different. In less than 40 minutes you are ready. Wear hat, sunscreen and slippers.

  • Cute place, to learn about the history of the region. Failure that yes most enable it for tourism, there are no people who sell products at its entrance and well equipped bathrooms outside the House
