4.2/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web
Step back in time at Salitrera Santa Laura one of only two remaining saltpetre production complexes, and a remnant of a once-booming industry in Chile. The “nitrate town” is a World Heritage Monument, which remains untouched since production halted in the early 20th century. Visit the large pinewood structure that witnessed the thousands of laborers working in the harsh surroundings of the Atacama, one of the driest deserts in the world. Learn about the mining and extracting processes, and view the photos and relics from the industry’s “Golden Age.” Plan your Salitrera Santa Laura visit and explore what else you can see and do in Iquique using our Iquique tour planner.

  • Takes you to many years ago, and one is connected with the past immediately, it is well-maintained, spacious, I do not recommend it for days where there are very hot.

  • It is inevitable to imagine how they lived and worked. There is good evidence of the time, I recommend you to be accompanied by a guide, in particular, we hire Magical Tour and it was very good. The place is beautiful, serene and invites the imagination. I recommend you take a good hat, glasses, sunscreen and water.

  • Visit essential for this part of the history of Chile. Unfortunately it was recovered and is heritage after several decades and it shows. Urgent maintenance and care of this place.
