Once a center for 19th-century Chile's booming salt production industry, today Oficina Salitrera Santiago Humberstone stands as a ghost town. The town rose up around the saltpeter refineries; some it now functions as a museum, but most of the area remains open for you to tour on your own. Walk around and see what time has changed, visiting the homes of the workers that once hailed from Chile, Bolivia, and Peru. Most of the machines are authentic pieces that functioned during the refinery's operation. • A fascinating place full of experiences, memories and longings of a golden age. Here you will find with the traces of a great past as sad as cheerful, transported to the era in which men and women worked under a relentless Sun bulldozing them found sensations. The tools, the equipment used at that time will make you admire to this breed of people brave and self-sacrificing. It certainly won't be a lost trip, whether it will be very entertaining.

  • When visiting Humberstone, can you imagine how it all took place there, in this ghost town. Fear and curiosity go together to enter the homes and workshops. Creativity takes care of our head. Tour that can be done in half a day, but if you want to know ... take a day to be there! Is very worthwhile!
