Oficina Salitrera Santiago Humberstone, Iquique
(4.6/5 based on 950+ reviews on the web)
Once a center for 19th-century Chile's booming salt production industry, today Oficina Salitrera Santiago Humberstone stands as a ghost town. The town rose up around the saltpeter refineries; some it now functions as a museum, but most of the area remains open for you to tour on your own. Walk around and see what time has changed, visiting the homes of the workers that once hailed from Chile, Bolivia, and Peru. Most of the machines are authentic pieces that functioned during the refinery's operation. Make Oficina Salitrera Santiago Humberstone a centerpiece of your Iquique vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Iquique vacation route planner.

  • It was closed when the nitrate, after a period of splendour, being one of the main producers of the world, it is very interesting to visit facilities where lived the staff, today declared patrimony of the humanity. Museum.

  • Good place to visit if you're in Iquique, is close to the city. It is like going to the past, you can tour houses, school, hospital, which are as it were, some refurbished, some objects they can also be seen.
