Museo Corbeta Esmeralda, Iquique
(4.6/5 based on 750 reviews on the web)
Climb aboard a replica of the historic steam ship and learn about the history of Chile’s struggle for domination in the Pacific at Museo Corbeta Esmeralda. Built in England in 1855, the original ship saw action in both the Chincha Islands War and the War of the Pacific. In 1879, the ship was sunk during a battle with the Peruvian ironclad vessel Huáscar, but both the Esmeralda and her captain Arturo Prat earned an eternal, distinguished place in Chilean history. Today the museum gives you the chance to revisit the iconic ship, from the engine rooms to the top deck, and experience the conditions in which the sailors and the officers lived, worked, and fought. Only a limited number of visitors are allowed on board at one time, so it’s best to reserve your tour time online or by telephone at least one day in advance. A visit to Museo Corbeta Esmeralda represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Iquique itinerary maker to plot your vacation.

  • It is a beautiful Museum with guided visits, I went with my 5 year old son and the great step. It costs a bit coordinate entry Web site and opening hours is short. But it is a must visit if you go to iquique.

  • I liked the Museum, is very well located, two blocks from the plaza, but should improve the agility of the visits
