Museo Corbeta Esmeralda, Iquique

4.6
Climb aboard a replica of the historic steam ship and learn about the history of Chile’s struggle for domination in the Pacific at Museo Corbeta Esmeralda. Built in England in 1855, the original ship saw action in both the Chincha Islands War and the War of the Pacific. In 1879, the ship was sunk during a battle with the Peruvian ironclad vessel Huáscar, but both the Esmeralda and her captain Arturo Prat earned an eternal, distinguished place in Chilean history. Today the museum gives you the chance to revisit the iconic ship, from the engine rooms to the top deck, and experience the conditions in which the sailors and the officers lived, worked, and fought. Only a limited number of visitors are allowed on board at one time, so it’s best to reserve your tour time online or by telephone at least one day in advance. • If you are to make your booking via internet or call by phone one or two days before your visit. Only enter, every 15 minutes, groups of 12 people. From the Center the collective worth $600. It is a representation of the corberta Emerald, sunk on May 21, 1879 during the war of the Pacific and built in British shipyards. It was led by Commander Arturo Prat. It has a guided tour with cost of 40 minutes which I recommend cushioning do it, even for foreigners. Adunto photos. was I helpful?

  • Good ride, learn enough, the guides explain very well and sound environmental tours. Children enjoy pretty looking cannons, sails, ropes, etc.

  • ✔️ The Emerald from the 2010 I Museum on the waterfront of Iquique, close to 10 minutes from the Zofri. ✔️ To enter the Museum I recommend entering the page to reserve the time and number of people that will be. (It can go without reservation but if there is no availability may not enter) ✔️ the value is $2,500 per person. And the tour is guided and lasts approximately 45 to 50 minutes. I recommend you go early by the Sun and then seize the day.

Where to stay in Iquique

For dependable chain options, look for hotels located along the beachfront--a good area for anyone visiting Iquique to swim, surf, and paraglide. Hotels near the beach also tend to stay relatively expensive throughout the year, so if you're visiting on a budget, consider one of the city's many hostels. Rental apartments distributed across Iquique accommodate visitors looking for more privacy and space.
