Ana Kai Tangata, Hanga Roa
Categories: Outdoor Activities
White-capped waves crash against the rocky shoreline near Ana Kai Tangata, concealing this hidden cave area. The cave is accessible at low and high tide and affords magnificent views of the coastline. A brief climb down the steps brings visitors to the cave's entrance, and further exploration reveals red and white drawings of birds on the rocky surface. The drawings were done with natural pigments and animal fat, but the cave's humidity has greatly hindered their preservation. The cave is believed to have been a meeting place for athletes taking part in the swimming competitions of the local Birdman cult. Enchanting cave with ancient paintings. The stairs down are somewhat steep but in good condition. Park next to the park and hotel.
