Ana Te Pahu, Easter Island
Categories: Landmarks, Tourist Spots
Gain an insight into the creation of Easter Island with a visit to Ana Te Pahu, a series of lava tunnels spanning 7 km (2.4 mi), that were formed when rock solidified around a stream of molten lava. The formations served as cave dwellings used by the island’s inhabitants to shelter from the elements. The garden by the dwellings abounds with sweet potatoes, bananas, and taro. Used as a refuge from battles as well as housing during primitive times, the caves' breadth made them convenient for inhabitants. Take a flashlight and some appropriate boots for the excursion.
