Ana Te Pahu, Easter Island

#14 of 18 in Sightseeing in Easter Island
Landmark Tourist Spot
Gain an insight into the creation of Easter Island with a visit to Ana Te Pahu, a series of lava tunnels spanning 7 km (2.4 mi), that were formed when rock solidified around a stream of molten lava. The formations served as cave dwellings used by the island’s inhabitants to shelter from the elements. The garden by the dwellings abounds with sweet potatoes, bananas, and taro. Used as a refuge from battles as well as housing during primitive times, the caves' breadth made them convenient for inhabitants. Take a flashlight and some appropriate boots for the excursion. • Everything that I wrote in my opinion are required to attend. But far enough away to go and better in cloudy weather, bring water and comfortable shoes is required, such as sneakers.

  • The cave of bananas is another of Easter Island, is a rather dark and deep well cave, go with flashlight but do not see anything. at the final destination as to a "room", however there is no exit at the end of the cave where you enter you must exit. Inside there are walking very carefully, while more you get more wet again.

  • A very magical to visit place where you not only maravillaras with its trees fruit if not with its mystical runes where you can access a rather old staircase all echo of rocks and stones, you can delve into this world looking for mysteries and ghosts really colors magic rocks and some hatches of light that you kept afloat. You need a flashlight, water and food. Don't forget to respect the environment and return your trash!

  • How cool to adventure through a lava tube surrounded by green grasslands, hills, horses and cows!
  • Really beautiful place to visit, specially unter the ground and with the view to the hole in te roof where you can see the sky
  • The Ana Te Pahu cave is not a must, but if you have time, it's pretty cool as adventure and exploration. It is a subterranean area composed of four cameras connected by dark corridors that served as a refuge in the bloody tribal wars that occurred between the years of 1200 and 1500. As we're going to deepen through the cave appear clearings that illuminate the environment in these bright dot some plants develop. The access road has several banana trees, so some know these as "banana's Caves".

Where to stay in Hanga Roa

The main urban area on the island, Hanga Roa houses the vast majority of Easter Island's accommodations. While the number of choices remains pretty limited considering the island's popularity, the range of lodgings suits a variety of travelers, from budget-conscious backpackers to those seeking luxury. Relaxed guesthouses and hostels provide decent rooms to get your head down for the night after a long day's exploration. Eco-lodges and more exclusive hotels tend to be positioned outside of the main urban area, providing airport pick-up services, ocean views, and swimming pools.
