Ahu Te Pito Kura, Easter Island
(4/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web)
On a rugged stretch of coastline, find Ahu Te Pito Kura, the largest moai ever made, and one of the few whose name has not been lost over time. Unfortunately, the monolith faces the floor, having been toppled along with the other moai during the Rapa Nui civil wars. Still, the monument's size is impressive--10 m (33 ft) tall and weighing around 70 tons--as are the stories that surround him. Located close by in the same site, find a large, polished oval rock, surrounded by a low stone wall. Its high iron content confuses compasses, and some believe it to be charged with a powerful mystical energy. With our online itinerary creator, Hanga Roa attractions like Ahu Te Pito Kura can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • This was an interesting little site by the sea. Perfectly round rocks with the largest one in the center having magnetic capabilities. Unfortunately, they’ve built up a wall (for preservation reasons,...  more »
  • It is a must-see because here is the finished higher on Easter Island moai. I honestly took a disappointment because it is now knocked down and had the illusion that still remained a laggard, but apart from that it is worth visiting it. To the side is a magnetic stone next to four stones aligned with the cardinal points, logically going to be able to check them with the brugula of the cell because a real compass will point to the stone.

  • As many parts of the island, it is a must to know this place. It is called the navel of the world. Very nice to take pictures... the road is difficult.
