Ahu Tahai, Easter Island

4.8
#4 of 18 in Sightseeing in Easter Island
Historic Site Tourist Spot
Get a close look at three altars of the Moai when you visit Ahu Tahai. The attraction actually encompasses all three altars of Moai that are close together and near the village of Orongo, all found in a large green field. Take time to sit on the grass and relax after your day on the island. Try to visit at sunset for the best photographic moments of the altars and the sea. By using our Hanga Roa vacation generator, you can arrange your visit to Ahu Tahai and other attractions in Hanga Roa.

  • It is certainly the first thing you see when you get to the island and the best thing is you can take it whenever you want and you not tired of the place. Something that may not do is watch a sunset at the place, not be regret.

  • A great place to start your trip on Rapa Nui. It is a walking distance away from Hanga Roa and the port.  more »
  • AHU Tahai is the place where you can take the photo more beautiful at sunset across the island. In addition, you can walk up the ramp which provides access to the waters of the Pacific, apart from admiring the Moai that there are. There are also the foundations of some houses. One of the most easy to visit on foot, as it is very close to the village of Hanga Roa. One of the must-see sites of Easter Island.

  • The sunset is amazing! It's also a great place to see the stars at night. It's a few minutes walking from the center
  • One of the few moai displays that has an eye. Best time of day hands down is to go at sunset.
  • One of the most accessible set of maois as you can easily walk there. Sunset is nice but can get chilly. Start of the walk for other sites.
  • One of my favorite locations on the island. Easy walk from downtown, just past the cemetery. Very secluded and beautiful place for sunset.
  • A lot of people tell me the heads aren't alive. Buddy, I know a living person when I see one. People talk a lot about them though: I hope they don't get a BIG HEAD. But seriously folks,

Where to stay in Hanga Roa

The main urban area on the island, Hanga Roa houses the vast majority of Easter Island's accommodations. While the number of choices remains pretty limited considering the island's popularity, the range of lodgings suits a variety of travelers, from budget-conscious backpackers to those seeking luxury. Relaxed guesthouses and hostels provide decent rooms to get your head down for the night after a long day's exploration. Eco-lodges and more exclusive hotels tend to be positioned outside of the main urban area, providing airport pick-up services, ocean views, and swimming pools.
