Ahu Nau Nau, Easter Island

Categories: Ruins, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.7/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web
One of the most important moai archeological sites on Easter Island, Ahu Nau Nau boasts seven ancient statues restored to their former glory in 1980 by Sergio Rapu. Located on the golden sand of Anakena Beach, these monoliths have enjoyed better preservation than most over time, as sand accumulated by wind kept them partly buried for a long time. Survey the red coral topknots perfectly placed on the heads of the four larger statues. Head behind the moai to observe some ancient petroglyphs representing the legendary lizard man, a figure of folklore among Easter Island inhabitants.
