Ahu Akivi, Easter Island

Categories: Landmarks, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.3/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web
See the sacred Ahu Akivi, a religious site on Easter Island that contains seven moai stone figures carved between the 13th and 17th centuries. The identical human-like statues were discovered in 1955 and restored in 1960 by a team of American and Chilean archaeologists. The statues have an astronomic importance, facing the sunset during the vernal equinox and showing their backs to the sunrise during the autumnal equinox. A visit to Ahu Akivi represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Hanga Roa vacation builder to plot your vacation.

  • A group of MOAI, less impressive than other groups, perhaps because of the degree of conservation. They are in the middle of a field, and assume that they looked to a village that no longer exists.

  • One of the places on eastern island with the statues. Like the others it's nice to visit this spot to get the whole picture.
  • Here you will found 7 moais looking to the sea, they put it there in order to frighten the conquerors, really beautiful to have nice pictures with the sunset in the back.
  • Peaceful location. Toilet inside the store here is expensive. Try to avoid it.
  • The only moais on the island that are looking out towards the ocean. The roads to get to these ones are pretty poor but all good in a 4x4.
  • pooper nnnnnnnnoooooooooo by day
  • This is not the location for Ahu Akivi; this is the side of the Orongo crater. The correct coordinates are: -27° 6' 53.48", -109° 23' 41.87" Google: can we edit or delete this location?
  • The magic of the past
