Nuestra Senora de los Dolores Church, Dalcahue
(4.1/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web)
Humble in appearance, Nuestra Senora de los Dolores Church is a relic of the late 19th century and an inscribed member of the World Heritage List. In 1849 this Catholic church was built to replace a Jesuit missionary that formerly occupied the site. It's constructed of alerce, cypress, and coigue wood on both the exterior and interior. Nine arches support a deep portico and single tower on the facade, and stone colonnades continue on the inside. Of note is the multi-colored depiction of Christ crucified, hinged at the underarms. • One of the 16 churches world heritage site. Now closed and we could not see inside, but it has the charm of this type of typical buildings of the Chiloé archipelago

  • Many of the churches that one visit to be world heritage sites are CLOSED. This is regrettable for local tourism, since the architecture of the interior could not be seen, you can only see on the outside. Despite that, the architectural Majesty can not ignore.

  • Considered within the path of patrimonial churches, is difficult to see it open (only in high season) or coordinating mass schedule.
