  • The most notorious is that it is a Pentagon. Is beautiful, ancient trees and many benches. It has public baths... Very useful!.

  • I went to the plaza of < armas as the main street for several weeks, I had contacts with students in schools located in this area, trade with the inhabitants of the adjacent quarters who are always happy to chat with strangers and thus enhance their city. Number of houses of the old Cohaique are made of wood and heated with wood by a piping system which, starting from the stove through the ceiling to still cross the ceiling of the top floor and so evacuate the fumes to the outside. The pipes serve as radiators... a big risk for the safety of the inhabitants, but... the "bomberos" are all ready. This heating mode helps remforcer the solidarity among the inhabitants as have delivered firewood, split it, store it, require a lot of manpower and causes mutual aid between generations. Another thing that surprised me is the presence of packs of dogs in every neighborhood, these dogs have masters but living on the street during the day and are vigilant guards when a foreign and without a master dog dares enter their territory... I assure you, these dogs are not aggressive with respect to human beings... near the place d'armes is the "Ricer" Café which offers meals, ice, beverages possible. Close yet this coffee is the 'artisan market' which offers interesting creations as well as a sculptor of stone as the "lapi lazuli. the Chilean general is intrigued by the French, what is doing here? ask they often, the France is known as the country of human rights. The place d'armes is occupied every Sunday by the garrison of Coyhaique coming to present arms at the Chilean flag and his band performs different pieces of music for residents who are present. After passing the place d'armes so continue visiting the city by the main street whose architecture evokes harsh winters; It looks like a winter sports station... wooden houses, wood galleries, street is paved, horseback policemen ensure security, a few restaurants and shops that provide the clothing and food of the inhabitants and a supermarket. It is possible to meet Indians traditionally dressed if you except the CAP "top of form" carried by the man. A change of scenery for a French... continuing my path I'll see the "stone of the Indian"...

Where to stay in Coyhaique

Most options remain close to the river on the western side of town, where you can find a range of hotels and guesthouses. For a slightly more refined experience, look for resort-style accommodations with pools and onsite restaurants. Alternatively, consider staying at one of a handful of campgrounds in and around town.
