Cruz Del Tercer Milenio, Coquimbo

3.6
#1 of 13 in Historic Sites in Coquimbo Region
Admire the artistry of Cruz Del Tercer Milenio, a striking structure that remains one of the tallest landmarks in all of South America. Built by the Catholic Church between 1999 and 2001, the 93 m (305 ft) tall cross was designed to mark the start of the new millennium, an important date in the Christian faith. The cross juts out impressively from a triangular prism base that disappears into the rocky hill beneath it. The three-tiered base includes a museum detailing the creation of the monument, a level dedicated to prayer, and a viewing platform. We were on the cross, the entry has a value of 2000 adult and have the right to see a museum which is in the Church and raise two elevators that lead up to the arms of the cross! more rescued what viewpoint you have from above you can see the entire city. But it saddens me very much that the surroundings are in terrible condition, to my taste it would be best to help these families to live in a more dignified way that spending so much money in the Church since enough money already have. Unfortunately, the bathrooms are disgusting! Dirty, paperless toilet, SOAP-free and only works a faucet to wash your hands! This should not happen, why we are paying for a service and organizers of this should worry and focusing more attention on the "minimum" services are in good condition to the public. They should also clean the lookout windows, seem to not clean them since they opened it. It is these details that would mark a difference if they put them into practice. Haaa and attention around the area that is not very good! (When I came out of the bathroom was a young drugged begging for money and we followed and insisted until we had him to give some coins)... hope can use them the info

If you like history or you are a believer, there is a church and a museum about the reason for the existence of this monument. Now, I went to the vista offered, is very nice, you can see the Horseshoe and Guayacán.
