Cerro Caracol, Concepcion

3.9
#3 of 16 in Outdoors in Greater Concepcion
Take a gentle hike through Cerro Caracol, a lush forested park that rewards with a lookout point with panoramic views. Known locally as the green lung of the city, the park features abundant vegetation contrasted nicely by man-made elements, including a neoclassical-style faux castle ruin. Check the website for details on whether the famed lookout point here is open, as operation times tend to be intermittent. If you're coming with children, head to another park adjacent, featuring well-equipped playgrounds. • Cerro Caracol is what all metropolitan park should aspire to be: a place downtown, with accessibility from different points, native vegetation on one of its slopes and good services (bathrooms, signage, bins, etc.). Hike in summer, spring or autumn is pleasant. Care in winter, it rains a lot :)

  • Beautiful trails to walk and walk. It is a beautiful forest within the city, all well maintained.

  • Worth the experience, is very well signposted and surveillance had each a section (I was a Sunday 10 am). As viewpoint is not the big thing, but the path is well maintained, I recommend it for those who like to walk. I recommend use of sunscreen, insect repellent, and respect the environment.

  • And left 3 times and it is always more beautiful. At the top there is a tower, the only one of its kind in America, built by the Germans after the first world war as part of a program to improve damaged relations with the rest of the world. Couldn't get before, but after the earthquake of 2010 I could not more.

  • Hello, I wonder why you hear so much electric saw or moto saw in the forest "protected", then see those huge trees that are supposed are protected, even when still chopping down, this is very common. to who it may concern, put the batteries!

  • Many years ago that was not walking along these paths, is very beautiful and best of all is that this very very clean and with many laundry bins to keep the path clean. You can see several species of insects and birds. Highly recommended visit

  • It is good to go for walks. The hard walk about 1 hour and 30 minutes, you can see lots of nature, people walking, animals and flora. There are bathrooms, a viewpoint (monument, there is a panoramic viewpoint).
